While we see a wide range of MINI shapes and models, its quite rare that the R60 Countryman is modified, so when this customer bought his R60 JCW to us for some performance upgrades we were excited to do the work and jumped at the chance to feature it on our website, as after all, it did make us fall in love with this model all over again.

Upgrading Performance

Having previously owned a tuned Honda Civic Type R, Liam wanted to get more punch and a sense of excitement from the somewhat ‘boring’ stock R60 Countryman JCW, so he opted to get the Lohen Countryman/Paceman Performance Pack 2 installed and in doing so we were able to combine the high-quality hardware and software components with our expertise to produce a MINI Countryman that oozes power.

To accompany the Performance Pack 2 and the TTV Clutch kit, Liam opted to install a CAE Ultra Short Shifter to his MINI. The CAE Short Shifter offers short and super precise shifting, it perfectly positions the shift lever next to the steering wheel allowing problem-free shifting to occur under stress or when travelling through corners, it is made from lightweight, high stability aluminium and it has an integrated centre position spring, which provides the perfect amount of driver feedback when shifting up and down. Opting for the red anodized gear knob meant that it fitted perfectly with this MINIs colour scheme and bought everything together to produce a Countryman that looked awesome. This precision engineered, quality short shifter gave this R60 JCW the perfect race feel with every gear change adding to the driver engagement and adding the excitement Liam was looking for.

Shifting Gears!

It’s become common knowledge that the stock MINI clutch tends to slip under high torque loads, one way of avoiding this is to upgrade the stock clutch. For a MINI that’s used for daily driving and fast road applications like this one, we recommend opting for the TTV Organic Clutch and Flywheel Kit, as it can handle the torque demands of even the most highly tuned cars and retains a close to stock pedal feel, there is no noise on engagement and it provides easy day to day use when manoeuvring. This kit uses a lightened single mass flywheel, which helps the car rev easier throughout the entire rev range.

Following the performance part installation and ECU tune, Liam’s Countryman JCW made 269 bhp and 381 Nm of torque on our Dyno, this was enough to drastically change the way this countryman drove. The modifications Liam chose for this job not only makes this R60 stand out from the crowd but they also left him smiling.
