Lohen has been repairing and upgrading the W11 engine found on MINI Cooper S, JCW and GP R53 and R52 models since the company started in 2004. Using this knowledge Lohen now offers crate engines that are built for various uses and tuning levels.  

The Lohen W11 Config 2 Crate Engine Build is a package suitable for MINI owners looking for the very best from there R53 Cooper S, John Cooper Works or GP model. Also suitable for the R52 Cooper S and John Cooper Works models. 

The Configuration 2 W11 crate engine features Lohen's big valve ported cylinder head that is built with Supertech forged valvetrain, performance valve spring, and titanium retainers.

As with the Configiguration 1 build, the bottom end uses Supertech forged pistons and Bridgeway connecting rods.This is pulled together with ARP 2000 main bolts, cylinder head bolts and cam sprocket bolts with new OEM specification parts such as gaskets, lifters, etc. High quality King Racing engine bearings are used in the construction. 

All engines are re-built in-house by Lohen to OEM or higher specification. 

Cylinder bores are checked for ovality and are either honed or bored-and-honed for the right size piston to the correct tolerance. Cranks and camshafts are checked for size, wear and damage before they are re-used and, where appropriate, balanced to 0.1gram.

Please note - Lohen Crate Engines are supplied as timed-up bare units without bolt-on ancillaries. The engines are therefore shipped dry and require final assembly of ancillaries and fluids prior to installation and start. 

If required, Lohen can supply a fully built engine for an additional charge. We also offer professional in-house installation and running-in-service at our workshop.

Exchange Donor Unit Surcharge 

Lohen will apply a surcharge to every engine sold unless a donor unit is supplied and it is deemed to be in re-buildable condition.

 

Supertech forged pistons are 77.5 mm (0.5mm oversized)

Valve sizes are 2.3mm oversized exhaust side and 1.8mm oversized inlet side. 

Why do we apply a surcharge?

A surcharge is charged because Lohen reconditions and re-use certain components, such as the head, crank and the crankcase. We do this to reduce costs to customer and components will only be used if they pass strict inspection criteria. Any wearable components are completely replaced in the upgrade process.

How it works 

The surcharge applies when a donor engine is not supplied back to Lohen or the condition of the donor engine is deemed by Lohen to be beyond re-buildable (i.e. major damage to the head, crank, block bores or external parts of the engine.) 

Once the donor engine is received Lohen will assess and measure the unit for tolerances and issue an appropriate refund of the surcharge within 7-10 working days. Should certain components within the donor engine be deemed unusable the surcharge will be only partially refunded. Please contact the sales team for full information.

Fitting Cost - £1500 - this includes dyno time to run in the engine.

Fitting Time - 20 hours

Required Additional Items/Services - W11 Installation kit which includes many items for more details see the W11 Engine Installation Kit - however a brief summary - 1 x running oil, 2 x engine oil, oil filters, supercharger oil change, gearbox oil change, gaskets, coolant, and key service components for renewal such as a thermostat, spark plugs, injector servicing knock sensor, and water pump.

Lohen Recommends - taking the opportunity to add Samco coolant hoses and inspect the clutch and flywheel while the engine and gearbox are out. 

Refunds are available within 7 days after delivery for products that are unused and are in original packaging. Special order goods are non-refundable. Products that are damaged in transit to or from the customer can be refunded up to 14 days after the product has been delivered. Products returned to us in imperfect, non-resalable condition will not qualify for refund. Products that are faulty due to manufacturing process are refundable under the manufacturers' warranty for a limited time specified in the manufacturer's terms and conditions. These do not apply if the product has been fitted incorrectly or mis-used, motorsport use could further reduce the manufacturer's warranty. If an order is cancelled or refunded the buyer is responsible for the return of the goods to such address as directed by the supplier and is at the consumer's sole expense. This does not affect your statutory rights.
